Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization is a process in which allows your website performance to rank you on Google, Bing, Yahoo, or any other search engine. While most people can pay for ads, such as Google AdWords to rank them at the top of a page, SEO is way for your website to rank organically with out spending a dime. What is required is your time and the investment of that time into things like making sure website performance is tip top, writing blog post on a consistent basis, and adding links to your page that continue to drive traffic from other platforms to your web pages. Honestly, the process is easy to me but have found that most people don’t care about their rank or even if they own a website. It has been a disheartening experience to say the least when I see someone let their rank fall or not rank at all simply because they don’t take the time to update their site on a consistent basis. I thought I would add a few examples of things you would like to consider in making sure your website performs and that your business/service/message can be found on these search engines.

1. Google My Business

If you own a business, you should register that business with Google. This will allow for all sorts of things like answering reviews. Remember the last thing you bought on Amazon? Did you buy from a 1 star or 2 star reviewed product? I didn’t think so. If you don’t take control of your business online, your customers & trolls will. Another great tool is instant messaging directly from Google with your Google My Business account. This allows for someone who is searching on Google through a mobile device to instantly message you about your business. The benefits are clear in why this is important but can only be done if your register your business with Google, so quit waiting around and go do that now.

2. Google Webmaster Tools

Webmaster tools can get a little tedious but the work can be a huge leap forward for your SEO efforts. Digital Marketing isn’t just running some ads online, it also requires that you drive people to your website. This website should be indexed, crawled by Googlebot, as well as have a site map submitted to Google so that Googlebot knows how to crawl your site. All the tools needed to accomplish this can be found through Google’s Webmaster Tools and more importantly this is a step that is completely overlooked by most including your competition. This process should also be done for Bing by searching for Bing Webmaster Tools. Don’t discount Bing as a way to rank for website traffic and customers since most of your home pages are locked in to MSN.com on your desktop computers.

3. Blog Post/Content Marketing

A post related to your business, service, or organization is a great way to rank your website on search engines. By using keywords and infusing those keywords into your post strategically, you will find that this a great way to organically out perform those competing for the same space you are. As a personal experience, I was a start up coming into the market and have found that the content I created was instrumental in out performing my competition simply by utilizing writing skills even when my competitors have been around for years. The message here is that your create constantly and consistently using keywords and phrases to start making a move to the top.
